Bulldogs meeting Stansbury's expectations
Mississippi State is approaching two full weeks of practice and unlike last season head coach Rick Stansbury knew pretty much what to expect from his squad.
Even still, that does not mean there have not been a few pleasant surprises.
"It's been pretty much what I anticipated because I had a feel of what to expect because it's not a brand new team," Stansbury said. "All the returnees are better in some ways, but we have to work on some other ways. The only ones you don't know what to expect are with new guys. The one guy that I didn't know what to expect with was Wendell Lewis. Wendell, of all the guys, has been better than what we anticipated."
Lewis was part of the Bulldogs No. 21 ranked 2009 signing class that included five-star Renardo Sidney, four-star John Riek and three-star Shaunessy Smith. Riek will miss the first nine games of the regular season serving a suspension while Sidney's amateur status is still in question by the NCAA.
That uncertainty along with several injuries has left Stansbury with questions concerning what lineups he can go with. Riley Benock has been unavailable due to a wrist injury while Elgin Bailey could miss the season still suffering from his dislocated ankle. Twany Beckham has already been ruled out for the year with surgery on both of his hips.
