Credit total team effort for VU's 5-1 start
The last two years, Vanderbilt basketball was often the Jermaine Beal and A.J Ogilvy show. Before that, and to an even bigger extent, it was Shan Foster and Derrick Byars leading the way.
This year, the torch was supposed to be passed John Jenkins and Jeffery Taylor. And while those two are more than capable of taking Vanderbilt a long way, it's starting to look like they may have more help than anyone realized when this basketball season started just two weeks ago.
First, it was Brad Tinsley dropping a triple-double on unsuspecting Presbyterian on opening night. On Saturday, as has been the case of late, it was Lance Goulbourne, Andre Walker and Festus Ezeli who helped dispose of a pesky Appalachian State squad to help Vanderbilt (5-1) fend off a team that nearly upset Mississippi State last week.
For Goulbourne and Ezeli, in particular, difference-making performances are becoming a habit, and both took center-stage when it mattered most on Saturday.
