Player Postgame: 'We made them play at our speed'
EAST LANSING - With Travis Trice unavailable for the game and Brandon Wood limited by an ankle injury Michigan State needed Keith Appling to play one of his best games of the year in order to defeat Wisconsin.
The sophomore from Detroit was up to the task. Appling tied senior captain Draymond Green for the team lead in scoring with 20 points. He also played masterful defense against Jordan Taylor in addition to igniting a transition attack that outscored Wisconsin 15-0 on the fast break.
"It makes the offense very easy when we don't have always sit in the half court and run a play," said Appling. "Whenever we can, we try to get out on the fast break and get an easy basket or two."
"It felt great because you are usually playing a very slow pace against Wisconsin," added Green when asked about his team's ability to run on the Badgers. "I think we made them play at our speed instead of their speed and slowing everything down. I think we really forced the tempo of the game."
