Bruins face Bulldogs in Wooden Classic

The UCLA Bruins (2-5) face the Mississippi State Bulldogs (6-2) in the John R. Wooden Classic on Saturday afternoon in the Honda Center in Anaheim at 1:30. The Bruins will be facing another significant challenge against a fundamentally sound, defensive oriented team. The Bulldog's two losses this year have been to Rider and Richmond when they didn't shoot well.

Mississippi State remedied their cold shooting in a subsequent game against St. Boneventure hitting almost 60% and nailing 16 three-point baskets. In their most recent game Thursday night against DePaul they played another excellent game on both ends of the floor defeating DePaul 76-45.

The Bulldogs of the SEC are coached by Rick Stansbury who is in his in 12th season at Mississippi State. Stansbury had a record of 238-128 during the eleven previous seasons and returns all five starters from last years' 23-13 team that made the NCAA tournament. Stansbury is noted for teaching defense and rebounding and that has been the bedrock of the Mississippi State program for many years.
