Bruins sting Hornets
UCLA cruised past Delaware State tonight winning by 17 points 66 to 49 in a game that was not really that close. The Bruins led from start to finish, methodically building their lead to 21 points at the end of the first half and leading by 29 points, 51 to 22 at the 12:55 mark in the second half. Then Coach Ben Howland started playing his bench players and the lead slipped to 14 points, 60 to 46 with 4:39 left in the game before UCLA put on a last minute run and put the lead back to 20 points. The game ended at 17 points with the Hornets hitting a 3 with 18 seconds left on the clock.
UCLA was led in scoring by freshman Reeves Nelson who got 21 points, shooting 7 for 8 from the field and 7 for 10 from the line. Nelson was credited with only three boards but that was clearly wrong and will be corrected.
Chipping in with 11 points apiece were Tyler Honeycutt, who shot 5 for 7 and Nikola Dragovic, who hit 4 for 9. They had four and three rebounds respectively. Malcolm Lee scored seven points on 3 for 7 shooting, along with three assists and five boards. Brendan Lane and J'mison Morgan added five points apiece; Morgan also grabbed four rebounds in his 10 minutes. Jerime Anderson scored four points on 2 for 3 shooting, along with six assists, six turnovers and six steals. Michael Roll finished with only two points on 1 for 7 shooting but accounted for seven rebounds and three assists.
