Nelson playing despite missing last four games

Talk about a young man who gets it.

Reeves Nelson spoke with the media the other day. He said he's going to confront his fears - his entire family is going to confront their fears along with him. He's going to play despite a family history that indicates he could have a tendency toward detached retinas.

Of course, with what he's put his poor eyes through this year, anyone's eyes would likely experience that tendency.

An elbow in the eye against Kansas, later on a huge fall from the rim making a one-point landing right on the eye that battered his head so much the other eye suffered a small tear in the retina.

Turns out his grandmother suffered from retinal tears in both her eyes, caused by a condition that could be congenital. This is cause for concern. I'm sure it concerned Reeves, but I'll bet it concerned his parents - and grandmother - a whole lot more.
