This and That: Memphis

Thursday night, for the second time this season, Georgetown downed Memphis, this time ringing a 70-59 loss on the Tigers before an announced 12,045, Verizon Center crowd. Georgetown is now 10-1, Memphis stands 6-5.

The Hoyas used a 12-5 run over the first half's last five and a half minutes to craft a seven point lead at intermission, and extended that work, extending it with a 20-8 scoring advantage by final stanza's second, TV timeout. Though Memphis in large measure rode a zone defense (and later a scrambling, pressure, full court man scheme) in closing the deficit to eight, the Tigers never again were really in contention.

More quotes from John Thompson III, on his team's defense and turnovers, plus opinions regarding sophomore Markel Starks, are on the Premium Court message board.
