Rude awakening for the Bulldogs

Mississippi State's welcome into Southeastern Conference play was a rough one.

The Bulldogs were upset on the road 98-88 by Arkansas and trailing by as many as 20 points during that contest. The Razorbacks took the lead for good less than a minute into the contest and never looked back with their full court pressing defense.

"They hit us in the mouth early and I don't know if we every recovered from it," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury. "They just kept coming at us. They played great. They did things in different ways that I hadn't seen them do. They scored every way you could score. Guys made three's off the bounce. I just thought we never recovered from early in that game."

MSU turned the ball over 18 times which led to 23 points the other way for the Hogs. The Bulldogs trailed by 10 with 3:30 left in the first half but cut the lead down to six by halftime.

But Arkansas had other ideas as they pushed it back out to a 14-point advantage 3:20 into the second half.
