Tennessee preview

Mississippi State begins their SEC home slate tonight hoping to erase the memory of Saturday night.

The 20th ranked Bulldogs fell behind in conference play losing to Arkansas on the road Saturday but are looking to rebound against Tennessee at 8 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Humphrey Coliseum.

MSU is 11-2 in home openers under Rick Stansbury losing last year to Alabama and Florida in 2003. The Bulldogs have not started 0-2 in conference play since 2003 when they began that year 0-3 but bounced back to win the Western Division.

Tennessee leads the overall series 75-40 and won six of the last eight meetings. However the Bulldogs have claimed two of the last three games including a 70-69 win in Knoxville last year behind a 20-point effort from Ravern Johnson.

In games played in Starkville, the two teams are tied with 26 wins each.

State enters tonight's game with a 13-3 overall record having dropped two of their last three contests. The Bulldogs fell 98-88 on the road at Arkansas to open league play committing 18 turnovers. They did receive a 25 points effort off the bench from freshman points guard DeVille Smith.
