Top Ten Illinois Hoopers For 2009

Just out is Rivals.com's Illinois Hoops Top 10 For 2009, which lists the best high school basketball players in the state of Illinois for 2009. The year 2009 is guard-dominated for Illinois, as eight out of the ten players listed play on the perimeter, although to two forwards have two of the top four slots. Numbers one through five are all very closely ranked, as well as six through ten, making it very possible for some players at the bottom to snag the top spot in the near future.

Who tops the list for 2009 is Champaign Centennial's James Kinney. The 6'1" point guard has all the key attributes for a top-notch point guard: smarts, savy, vision, and a killer jumper. Kinney has both a midrange game, as well as an excellent three point shot. When driving he creates for his teammate, and also can finish at the rim.

Second, but not far beyond, on the list is Michael Haynes, the 6'6" combo forward from Washington High School. Teaming up with 2008 stud DeAndre Liggins, they make one of the most potent combos in all the state. Known for his fearless play underneath the basket, Haynes can also kill the opponent from the perimeter, as he has a midrange game that is quickly improving.
