Berggren latest Minnesota native to choose UW
On Monday night, Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin staff landed their second verbal commitment of the 2008 recruiting cycle when Princeton, Minn., three-star center Jared Berggren chose the Badgers over Minnesota, Iowa State and Purdue.
With his commitment, Berggren becomes the second verbal commitment for the Badgers in the Class of 2007, joining Bloomington, Minn., native Jordan Taylor, who is a three-star point guard. Combined, Berggren and Taylor give the Badgers three Minnesota natives in two classes, as Orono, Minn., four-star power forward Jon Leuer will head to Madison this fall as part of the 2007 recruiting class.
BadgerBlitz.com caught up with Berggren, who updated his height and weight at 6-foot-10, 230 pounds, Wednesday night to talk about his commitment. You can read a transcript of that conversation below.
When I first heard you committed to the Badgers it was just before the football national championship game ended. Was that when you first gave the staff your pledge?
JB: "Yes. It was Monday night, probably around 8 o'clock."
What was it that maybe made you decide to let the staff know then?
JB: "I've been thinking about it for awhile and I just finally felt comfortable and I fully made up my mind that Wisconsin was the place I want to be."
