Is Jenkins' Vandy verbal solid?
Last month, Vanderbilt's coaches got an early start on their 2009 recruiting class, when Nashville Station Camp's John Jenkins made a verbal commitment to sign with the Commodores' basketball program this fall. Jenkins is widely considered the best Tennessee basketball player in his class.
The 6-4/185 guard is rated by Rivals.com as a 4-star prospect out of a possible five stars. Last fall, Rivals rated Jenkins as the 22nd best shooting guard in the nation in his class, and No. 95 overall. Those numbers, however, were largely based on what Jenkins did during his freshman season at Station Camp and his performances during last summer's AAU tournaments. Jenkins missed almost all of his sophomore season due to an ankle injury.
As a 2009 commitment, the earliest Jenkins can sign a National Letter of Intent is this coming November, when the NCAA's earlier signing period begins. Until then, Vanderbilt's coaches cannot publicly comment about Jenkins.
