Brust gives Iowa visit high marks

After receiving an offer from Iowa last month, Ben Brust wasted little time in making his first unofficial visit to Iowa City in the last two days. The talented Chicago area guard arrived early Tuesday evening and then spent most of Wednesday touring the Iowa campus. On his way back his Mundeline, IL home, Brust gave the visit high marks.

"I would say it exceeded my expectations," Brust said.

The visit started on Tuesday evening when he visited the Iowa Basketball offices inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena meeting with the coach staff.

"Last night I got to spend some time with Coach Lickliter and two of his assistants. Basically we just talked and they showed me a video of how they use their point guards and then the assistants took me around campus and met a few people."

Coach Lickliter also talked to Brust and his family about where the program is headed and how he could fit into his system.

On Wednesday, the 6-foot-2 guard who averaged 29 points a game in his junior campaign, continued his tour of the campus.

"I visited the School of Business and the Strength and Conditioning coach and the trainer. I got to meet three of the players and eat with them in the dorms."

Brust spent time with Anthony Tucker, Jarryd Cole, and Matt Gatens in the dorms, ate lunch with them, and discussed what life was like in the Iowa Basketball program.

Overall, he learned a lot about the Iowa program in his two day visit to Iowa City.

"I learned a lot on the visit. I saw how I could fit in academically and how I could fit in as a basketball player in the Big Ten playing against the best players' night in and night out," he said.

Brust said he has no other visits scheduled at this time other than a possible return trip to Iowa sometime in June.

"I have no other visited scheduled right now," he said. "Right now I want to go home and sleep on the visit and let it settle in. Then I plan on coming back in June to see Cully and check things out further."
