Decision time for Brust

Ben Brust wrapped up his college tour on Tuesday morning in Iowa City and headed home for a couple of basketball games in the evening and then the talented guard plans to do some thinking. After visits to several colleges this past month, the 2010 prospect is closing in on a decision, which he plans to make sooner rather than later.

With offers from Iowa, Butler, Northwestern, Bradley, Davidson, and Southern Illinois on the table, the Mundelein, IL native made his second trip to Iowa City early this week for one more look.

"I got there on Monday and I spent most of my time with Cully (Payne). Then at night I went to the Prime Time League game and got to see the Iowa guys play. After that I spent time on campus with Cully. Then this morning we shot around at Carver," Brust said on Tuesday afternoon.

While his initial visit focused on academics and becoming more familiar with the coaches and the program in general, this time around the 6-foot-2 guard said he was more player oriented in his time on campus.

"I feel like I got a better feel for the guys on the team after spending more time with them," he said. "I didn't spend as much time with the coaches this time because the focus was on getting to know the players better. I spent some time with Coach Lickliter and his staff and they are all on the same page with where they want the program to go."

One of the highlights of the trip for Brust was his visit on Monday evening to the Prime Time League, a summer basketball league in nearby North Liberty that features future, current, and former Iowa players, along with players from Northern Iowa. Brust was very impressed by the fan support he saw in Iowa City.

"It was really unexpected," he said. "I really never expected to see so many people watching a summer league game. It was really cool to see the guys competing from all the different schools."

Brust had two games back home on Tuesday evening and then he plans to begin to sort through his list of schools once again and plans to make his decision before the July AAU season begins next week.

"After my games tonight, I am going to talk more with my family tonight and tomorrow. All the schools are still on the table and I will make my decision shortly," Brust said.
